Bridge to close to boaters

- — Susannah Bryan

A drawbridge west of Andrews Avenue in downtown Fort Lauderdale will be closed to marine traffic for several days in April.

The Florida East Coast Railway bridge will be closed to boaters from 10 p.m. April 2 to 8 a.m. April 3, and from 10 p.m. April 16 to 10 a.m. April 17.

The bridge will open to marine traffic on demand from 8 a.m. April 3 to 10 p.m. April 16. The openings will take more time than usual because a crane will be used to open the bridge.

The bridge is normally kept open, closing only to make way for trains.

Upgrades are being made to prepare for Brightline, an express passenger rail service to run between Miami and Orlando.

The same bridge was closed for repairs Feb. 11-23.
