Four-star tight end recruit from Nevada verbally commits to the Hurricanes.

CORAL GABLES — Brevin Jordan spent time in Coral Gables last week watching the Hurricanes work.

It didn’t take him long after that to decide he’d like to be part of what’s happening there.

Jordan, a four-star tight end prospect out of Nevada’s powerhouse Bishop Gorman, verbally committed to the Hurricanes on Sunday, adding yet another big name to an already stellar 2018 recruiting class.

“Miami football is a class act,” Brevin wrote on Twitter, announcing his commitment. “The legacy continues. One hundred and ten percent committed to play Football in paradise for the University of Miami.”

Brevin’s commitment eventually drew a response from Hurricanes coach

Mark Richt, who didn’t mention Brevin by name but took to social media to write, “Tight End U is alive and well!!! U Family!!” Miami tight ends coach

Todd Hartley took to social media to celebrate the commitment as well, his Tweet including some Las Vegas flair, with Hartley writing, “Jackpot, baby!” with an image of a slot machine.

The 6-foot-3, 257-pound Brevin is rated the nation’s No. 3 tight end by 247Sports.com, which also ranks him the 79th player overall in the Class of 2018. According to the site, he had 27 catches for 501 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

He received interest from multiple major college programs including Michigan, whose spring game he reportedly attended this weekend, Southern Cal, UCLA, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville and LSU.

With Brevin’s commitment, the Hurricanes — who already had the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class — have now received 16 verbal commitments from some of the nation’s top high school football players.

Of those 16 committed players, 11 are rated to be four- or five-star prospects.

Though Richt and his staff have acknowledged nothing in recruiting is final until letters of intent are signed — something prospects can now do earlier, thanks to a new signing period which was approved by the NCAA last week — the Hurricanes are undoubtedly enjoying their success on the recruiting front.

“Nothing is done until signing day. We know that. Until a guy comes midyear or until a guy signs, it’s all hopeful,” Richt said earlier this spring. “But I do think we have the right kind of people who are choosing to commit because they love the place, not because we’re trying to push them into it. They’re excited about what’s happening and they want to be here. At least they feel that way today. We’ll see how it goes as we go.”

The Hurricanes are set to wrap up spring practice this week with practices today and Thursday before their third and final scrimmage Saturday at Richt’s alma mater, Boca Raton High.
