Gobert a no-go for Jazz in Game 3

-

Jazz center Rudy Gobert will not play in Game 3 of the first-round Western Conference series against the Clippers after hyperextending his left knee and suffering a bone contusion in the series opener.

The 7-foot-1 Frenchman went down 17 seconds into Game 1 when he knocked knees with Luc Mbah a Moute on the first possession of the game, which the Jazz won 97-95. The series is tied at 1-1.

Gobert is a defensive player of the year candidate after he led the league in blocks and defensive win shares. He also ranked third in defensive rating.

Gobert became the first player in Jazz history to record 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 200 blocks in a single season.

Derrick Favors slides over from power forward to center with Gobert out. The Jazz were outscored 60-38 in the paint in Game 2. Warriors go up 2-0: Stephen Curry scored 19 points on an off night, JaVale McGee provided a spark for Golden State off the bench with 15 points, and the short-handed Warriors beat the visiting Portland Trail Blazers 110-81 on Wednesday night in Game 2 of their first-round Western playoff series Wednesday night without injured leading scorer Kevin Durant.

McGee shined on a night none of the usual stars found consistent shooting strokes. The backup big man made all seven of his field-goal attempts and delivered several of his signature alley-oop dunks as Durant watched with a strained left calf he hurt in the playoff opener Sunday.

Draymond Green had another fantastic all-around game, getting 12 rebounds, 10 assists, six points and three more blocked shots after swatting five in Sunday’s win.

Curry went 6-for-18 and also had six assists, while Klay Thompson scored 16 on 6-of-17 shootingwith 16 points and CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard struggled.
