Cypress Bay had its firstever alum drafted into the NFL on Saturday when offensive lineman Danny Isidora was taken in the fifth round.

Just when it looked like that was all the Lightning would get on Day 3 of the NFL draft, former running back Matt Dayes was selected with the second-tolast pick (252nd overall) in the seventh round by the Cleveland Browns.

“It’s a great day for Cypress Bay and the community. We’re all excited,” said Cypress Bay coach Mark Guandolo.

Dayes, who played collegiately at N.C. State, had a wait from his anticipated draft position, remaining on Mel Kiper’s “best available” during the ESPN telecast for much of the sixth and seventh rounds.

Dayes heads to the NFL a complete back. His senior year with the Wolfpack, he ran for 1,166 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 267 yards and was secondteam All-ACC.

Dayes played on Cypress Bay’s 2012 team that reached the Class 8A state championship game but fell in a 53-50 shootout to Apopka.

Isidora, who was a senior for the Lightning the year before they reached the title game and comes out of the University of Miami, was taken 180th overall by the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday.

“Danny, I think, is a guy that’s going to be in the league a long time,” Guandolo said. “He’s a great kid, hard worker, really dedicated. He’s just steady. He shows up, comes to work.” Class 5A title game.
