Gary Polk has joined the South Florida chapter of The Society for Financial Awareness, as a member and instructor of its nationwide 501(c)(3) nonprofit speakers bureau, founded in 1993. SOFA’s mission is to end financial illiteracy across America, offering free one-hour financial workshops to companies, religious groups, hospitals, universities and government agencies. Two new members have joined the board of the Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope. The organization seeks to ease the financial burden for qualified local cancer patients by paying their nonmedical bills and by providing information resources. The new members are: Dr. Sheila Buchbinder, board-certified obstetrician gynecologist; and David T. Sarama, training and development professional, specializing in guest service and corporate training programs. Jacqueline Calderín was elected president and chief executive officer of the board of directors for Friends of Patches, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for PATCHES PPEC through networking and cycling. PATCHES PPEC stands for pediatric alternative treatment, care, housing and evaluation services, and prescribed pediatric extended care. The organization provides nursing care for children with sub-acute and chronic conditions. Calderín is partner and founding member of Ehrenstein Charbonneau Calderín.

Mitchell and Sandy Thomas, AT&T employees based throughout Broward County have been honored with the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) for donating more than 500 hours of their time in 2016 to community service. They volunteer at multiple agencies in South Florida, including Safe Space, Joshua’s Heart, Community Emergency Response Team, Boy Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, Quest School, Wreaths Across America, Ronald McDonald House, and Honor
Flight. Carey O’Donnell, founder and president of the advertising and public relations firm, O’Donnell Agency, was named Small Business Person of the Year for 2017,by the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches.

Biana Murnane, executive vice president and chief financial officer of BrightStar Credit Union, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Broward chapter of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates. U.S. Century Bank has announced the addition of Jessica Goldberg as senior vice president and human resources director.
Media
Howard Saltz, publisher & editor-in-chief of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, has appointed Rob Cravaritis to the additional role of publisher of City & Shore, a magazine that highlights South Florida fashion, home design, travel, fine dining, society, entertainment and lifestyle, and named Doug Scroggin as publisher of Society Scene, a weekly publication that features philanthropic news and community outreach throughout South Florida. Cravaritis, vice president of sales for the Sun Sentinel Media Group in Deerfield Beach, leads the company’s advertising division and oversees all revenue and strategy related to print, online, direct mail and event marketing. He joined the Sun Sentinel Media Group in July 2016. Scroggin, who has been with the company for over 25 years, is director of major advertising and targeted strategies and is responsible for department stores, furniture, telecommuni- cations, financial, package goods, high tech, travel, automotive, real estate, recruitment and El Sentinel advertising.

Miami Attorney Angela C. Vigil, pro bono partner and executive director for the international law firm of Baker McKenzie, has been appointed by The Florida Bar to a three-year term on the board of The Florida Bar Foundation, a statewide charitable organization whose mission is to provide greater access to justice. David Miller Jr. and J. Paige Salib have joined the Palm Beach Gardens-based law firm of Mathison Whittles LLP. Miller’s practice areas include commercial/business disputes, construction claims and liens, catastrophic personal injury claims, premises liability matters, class actions, general liability claims, medical malpractice claims, probate matters, landlord-tenant issues and a variety of transactional matters. Salib works with clients on residential and commercial real estate transactions, land use, business formation and corporate law.
Public Relations
Burson-Marsteller, a global strategic communications and public relations firm, announced that Pedro de Cordoba has joined Burson Latino, the firm’s specialty group that connects clients with the growing U.S. Latino marketplace, as a senior director.

AAJ Technologies’ Jorge Agnese has joined SIG’s LatAm Alliance Board. Agnese, vice president of nearshore and outsourcing solutions at AAJ Technologies, was appointed to the board of SIG’s LatAm Alliance to create the next generation of nearshore engineering teams in the U.S. and South America.
Technology
SpiderBoost Communications promoted Boris Alonso to lead developer who will oversee all web development projects. Additionally, Alan Espinet joined the company as a junior developer.
Real Estate
Cushman & Wakefield announced that Errol
Blumer has been hired as an associate on the South Florida multifamily team in Fort Lauderdale. This team focuses on the needs of institutional and private owners of multifamily properties, land development, and structured equity and debt finance throughout South Florida. Previously, Blumer was at Avison Young. Blumer was also a transaction manager for Apartment Realty Advisors (now ARA Newmark) and senior acquisitions analyst at Green Springs Property Management in West Palm Beach. Fort Lauderdale-based Diversified Companies announced the addition of
Howard Lefkowitz, who joins the company as vice president of leasing, and Harry Balsamo as director of construction management. Prior to joining Diversified Companies, Lefkowitz leased portfolios for Equity One (now Regency Centers), Woolbright Development, Morguard/Sizeler Real Estate, Hill Partners, and CBRE. Balsamo was previously with Stiles Corp. and Citrix Systems, in their real estate departments.
Design
Christine Crespo Valentín joined WGI’s Land Design Services Division as a senior designer.
Medical
Harvey Oyer, a partner at Shutts & Bowen LLP, was recently appointed to serve on the governing board of Good Samaritan Medical Center, West Palm Beach.
