Worker accused of trying to entice students for sex
A 20-year-old assistant in the after-school care program at Plantation Middle School is facing federal charges he tried to entice young teenage boys to engage in sexual activity with him, court records show.
Roosevelt Miller is accused of sending inappropriate text messages to three boys, a 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds, offering them gifts, cash and a trip to Disney in exchange for sex in February and March, investigators said.
Miller was arrested last week and is due in federal court in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday for a detention hearing.
The investigation began March 8 when a 13-year-old boy told someone at his middle school that Miller sent him “inappropriate sexual messages” on his cell phone. Plantation police began an investigation.
Two days later, school officials notified police and the FBI, that two other students had also reported Miller sent them similar messages. Authorities said Miller was employed by an after-school program at Plantation Middle.
Soon after he was hired, Miller tricked several students into giving him their cell phone numbers by asking them to write their names and phone numbers on a list if they were interested in playing basketball or football. Program officials later told investigators there was no approved program and Miller had created the list on his own.
One of the boys told police that Miller sent him messages several times on a mobile app, KIK, and asked if he was gay, told the boy he was “sexy” and said he would give him money and “spoil him” in exchange for oral sex, according to court records.
One of the 14-year-old boys told investigators that Miller phoned him, sent him texts, made FaceTime calls and sent him KIK messages “asking for a kiss, to touch his penis and put money in his underwear,” investigators wrote. Miller offered him gifts, including sneakers, and asked for his home address.
Miller offered the boy $300 in exchange for touching Miller’s genitals and sent him a photograph of Miller’s Visa card that showed Miller’s name embossed on the card, according to court records.
The other 14-year-old boy told investigators he did not attend the program, but met Miller when a friend from the program added him to a group chat on KIK.
“Miller offered the group gifts such as shoes, money, and his credit card in exchange for this contact,” investigators wrote. He also said he wanted to meet the underage boys outside of school and take them to Disney World, according to court records.
Miller is facing federal charges he used a cell phone to entice minors to engage in sexual activity.
