Summer might officially start on June 21, but several annual programs kick off here in sunny South Florida this month that will keep everyone entertained at economical prices.
These programs will keep kids, young and old, busy for months. Summer vacation begins for Palm Beach County public school students on June 2. Broward and Miami-Dade county schools let out June 8. Miami Museum Month: Get free entry and discounts with printable coupons good at 25 museums through May 31. The program, sponsored by the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, offers printable coupons for buy-one-get-one free admission at the Perez Art Museum Miami, the Gold Coast Railroad Museum, Deering Estate, HistoryMiami and the Art Deco Museum, among others. There are discounts, too.
The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, opening Monday, also is participating with an offer to save 10 percent on annual museum memberships, which start at $65. There is plenty to explore at the $325 million cuttingedge museum, which sits on four acres at 1101 Biscayne Blvd. in downtown Miami. The state-of-the-art facility is one of the most sophisticated science and technology museums in the country, housing a 250-seat, 3-D planetarium and a 500,000-gallon, three-level aquarium. Grand opening exhibits include “Feathers to the Stars,” a story of flight, and “LASERsHOW: Light, Color and Geometry” on the physics of light.
