Which Marlins could be on the trading block when discussions heat up?

- By Tim Healey Staff writer

If the Marlins decide to be sellers mid-summer, who could they move? They have quite a few options attractive to other teams. Here are a few who, generally speaking, fit a certain profile: small-to-medium pieces playing mostly well, who would be logical targets of other teams and relatively easy for the Marlins to part with on the fly.

Outfielder Marcell

Ozuna: He has followed his mixed 2016 — All-Star first half, bad second half — by being the Marlins' best player this season, and he won’t be a free agent until after 2019. His value might never be higher than it is this summer. He could bring in a real nice package of prospects. Closer A.J. Ramos: This season, during which he has received inconsistent save opportunities for obvious reasons, has been a relative down one for Ramos, with a 3.86 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and more walks than normal. But he still has a career 2.71 ERA and has been an All-Star, and there are always teams looking for bullpen/closer help. He’ll be a free agent after 2018.

Relievers David Phelps and Kyle Barraclough: As versatile and effective as they have been for the Marlins since the start of last year, they are exactly the sort of pitchers that can fetch a sneakypretty penny on the trade market. Like Ramos, Phelps is set to hit free agency after next season. Barraclough won’t until 2021.

Shortstop Adeiny

Hechavarria: Between Miguel Rojas fighting his way into the lineup preinjury and J.T. Riddle’s adequacy in their absence, Hechavarria seems to have less and less of a place on the Marlins, this year and beyond. He has one more year of team control. Starter Tom Koehler: This would be selling low, to say the least. Right shoulder bursitis prevented Koehler’s demotion to the minors, and any trade of him — which other teams have reportedly been interested in — would remove the longesttenured member of the starting rotation. But Koehler’s reputation is one of a sturdy, reliable, innings-eating starter, and most teams need that. Koehler is scheduled to be a part of that 2018-19 freeagent class.

?? JEFF ROBERSON/AP ?? Teams are always looking for late inning pitching help and A.J. Ramos could fill that need.
