ACC says Hurricanes and Seminoles game on Sept. 16 in Tallahassee will get prime-time slot on ABC.

CORAL GABLES — It’s almost always a game filled with big hits, big plays and lots of passion.

No wonder Miami and Florida State will again get prime-time treatment when they meet later this year.

The ACC announced Thursday that the annual showdown between the Hurricanes and Seminoles, set to take place Sept. 16 at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, will kick off at 8 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ABC.

It’ll be Miami’s first prime-time game since the last time the Hurricanes faced Florida State — a game the Seminoles won 20-19 at Hard Rock Stadium last October.

The Hurricanes will head to Tallahassee looking to end a maddening streak against their rival, with Florida State winning the last seven matchups in the annual series.

This year’s game will mark the 61st meeting between the two schools, with Miami playing Florida State more than any other opponent in program history. It also marks the earliest the two rivals have met since 2009 when the Hurricanes opened their season with a 38-34 win over FSU at Doak Campbell.

Before hosting the Hurricanes, Florida State will open the season with a Sept. 2 game against Alabama in Atlanta in one of the ChickFil-A Kickoff games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Seminoles, who were 10-3 last season, then host Louisiana Monroe on Sept. 9 before welcoming Miami to Tallahassee.
