UM’s ACC game versus Wake pushed to today

-

CORAL GABLES — The Hurricanes will have to wait another day to try to pickup another one of those much-needed wins in the ACC tournament.

Inclement weather in Louisville, Ky., where the tournament is being played, has forced the league to adjust the schedule, pushing Miami’s scheduled game against Wake Forest back a day.

Now, the sixth-seeded Hurricanes are set to take on the third-seeded Demon Deacons today at 11 a.m.

Miami opened tournament play Tuesday with a dramatic 6-5, 13-inning win over Georgia Tech. That was the start the Hurricanes (30-26) needed as they continue looking to add wins that will help them improve their RPI and bolster their NCAA Tournament resume.

Hurricanes coach Jim Morris said ahead of the conference championship tournament that he felt Miami needed at least two, if not three, wins in Louisville to give the Hurricanes a chance at extending their streak of 44 straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Another way to extend that record streak? Win the ACC Tournament outright and secure the conference’s automatic tournament bid.

But now, thanks to the weather, Miami’s push will have to wait a day.

Tuesday’s win has helped the Hurricanes stock, though.

After beating Georgia Tech, Miami’s RPI — an index that measures win percentage and strength of schedule and is used by the selection committee to help determine at-large berths — stands at No. 47 and Baseball America has moved UM into its latest projected Field of 64.
