SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE After a week of rough seas, conditions should be ideal for the holiday weekend. Tim Davis of Gladesman Outfitters said large mats of weed were pushed in close and should hold dolphin. Blackfin tunas had been biting in 100-200 feet from Boynton Beach to Palm Beach. THE KEYS Richard Stanczyk of Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada said schoolie dolphin, along with gaffers up to 15 pounds, were biting and not that far offshore. Catch 22 had 35 dolphin Wednesday. Tunas and amberjacks were biting on the humps. SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE Tarpon were biting better around Keys bridges and channels. Snook were biting in Everglades National Park. EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER Capt. Alan Zaremba said Everglades canals were producing 100-fish catches of largemouth bass, oscars, Mayan cichlids and some peacock bass using topwater plugs and jerkbaits. LAKE OKEECHOBEE Bass were biting jigs pitched in the grass and Zoom Flukes. Crankbaits were catching bass in the rim canal. OUTDOORS NOTEBOOK

Ladies Fish-Off: The 32nd annual Ladies Fish-Off, in which only women are the anglers, is June 3 out of Sands Harbor Resort & Marina in Pompano Beach. Boats can leave from Hillboro or Port Everglades Inlets, but must check in at Hillsboro by 4 p.m. The kickoff party is 6-8 p.m. June 1 at Galuppi’s in Pompano Beach. Late registrati­on is 6-7:30 p.m. June 2 at Bonefish Mac’s in Lighthouse Point. Eligible species are cobia, dolphin, kingfish, wahoo and blackfin tuna. Free fishing: June 3 and 4 are license-free saltwater fishing days for Florida residents and visitors. That means anglers do not have to purchase a fishing license to fish in salt water from shore or a boat. All seasons, bag limits and size limits still apply. Visit myfwc.com.

Kids tournament: Boaters are needed for the 38th annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Fishing Tournament June 3 out of Bahia Mar Yachting Center in Fort Lauderdale.
