Kingfish pay off for tournament anglers

Kingfish provided big paydays for saltwater tournament anglers over the weekend.

Jim Jobson caught two kingfish weighing a total of 34.6 pounds Saturday to win the Extreme Kayak Fishing Summer Slam Part 1 offshore kayak fishing tournament out of Pompano Beach and a check for $5,000 from Turbo USA.

Benny Townend was second with a 20.1 king that won him a Hobie Outback kayak from Nautical Ventures and $2,000 from RAILBLAZA for the big fish in the kingfish calcutta.

Ahmad Vazquez won a Hobie Revo from Nautical Ventures for finishing third at 19.6. Benny Scoca won a $1,000 check from Pompano Ford for finishing fourth at18.1. Michael Wood was fifth at 17.9 to win a Vibe Sea Ghost kayak.

That same day, Nearly Impossible caught 131.4 pounds of kingfish, blackfin tuna and cobia to top a fleet of 49 boats with 156 female anglers and win the 32nd annual Ladies FishOff.

The boat skippered by Capt. Ralph Hawkins won a total of $4,390. No Plan was second at 93.8 to win $2,384, followed by Makin Time at 74 ($1,756), Conched Out/In-2-Bait at 74 and Vitamin Sea at 64.2. Vitamin Sea also won the Tom Tucker Family Award.

Morgan Marziali of Advanced Roofing had the biggest kingfish at 34.8 to win $1,296. It was also the biggest fish of the tournament, which earned her an additional $6,455. Junior angler Mareena Reedy of Skipjac was second at 34.4 and Alison Hector of Nearly Impossible was third at 32.8.

Katy Sapp of Native Son had the biggest blackfin tuna at 24.8, which was worth $1,264. Katie Colville of Nearly Impossible was second at 24.4 and her teammate Stephanie Filion was third at 21.4.

Laurie Ingram of Reel Stubborn had the biggest cobia at 28.2. Jessica Hawkins of Nearly Impossible was second at 21.2.

Kristen Nordon of Conched Out/In-2-Bait had the biggest dolphin at 10.8 to win $1,327. April Laurentino won the big bonito award and $1,575 with a 21-pounder on Hooker Electric.

Mindy Marics of No Plan was the top angler at 46 and won $2,000. Sapp was second at 42 and Hawkins was third at 41.2.

Brooke Rohkamm of Vitamin Sea was the top junior at 40.2, followed by Reedy of Skipjac at 34.4 and Caroline Goodridge of OM31/Lady Bobcats at 32.

Savannah Nagy of Native Son was the top pee wee at 51.4, followed by teammate Kira Sapp at 50.4 and Ellie Dana of Pop A Top at 48.
