Chip Kelly visits Miami on final day of OTAs
DAVIE — Adam Gase was intrigued.
He had heard about the success of Chip Kelly, the savvy head coach at Oregon. But Gase wanted to learn more about Kelly’s offense, coaching style and his use of sport science with the Ducks’ football team.
So Gase visited Oregon while Kelly was still the coach there, and he came away impressed.
“He’s a good guy to bounce things off of,” Gase said. “He’s been through a lot … and we’ve kind of stayed in touch.”
Gase invited Kelly to the Miami Dolphins’ final day of organized team activities on Thursday. Kelly, who has since had stints as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, stood near the 20-yard line for a portion of practice, talking with assistant coaches.
“He had a chance to come down here and kinda hang out and talk some ball,” Gase said. “Just tried to learn a little bit of something.”
Gase said that many of Kelly’s schemes have rubbed off on him, especially when Gase was offensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos in 2013.
“We studied a lot of his stuff,” Gase said. “Just being able to have some discussions over the last couple years … any time you get an opportunity to be around coaches that you can learn from, it’s a great opportunity.” got into a scuffle with former Carolina cornerback
