If your dad plays golf, why not get him a gift for Father’s Day that will have him looking and feeling good whenever he tees it up?

Many fishermen I know wear UPF 30 or 50 longsleeve shirts to protect themselves from the South Florida sun. Golfers didn’t have that option until coLLo recently introduced its stylish, comfortable long-sleeve shirts, as well as a number of short-sleeve shirts.

The shirts are made from material that is UPF 50+ and also have what the Newport Beach, Calif., company calls the coLLo coLLar, which is higher in the back to protect dad’s neck from the sun.

“It comes up to your hairline. Every other shirt, it’s much lower than your hairline,” said coLLo regional sales manager Anthony Roderick, who is based in Boynton Beach.

The patent-pending structured collar, which comes with collar stays, stands up to keep the sun’s rays off the back of the neck while playing golf. The shirts are moisture-wicking to keep golfers cool, and the fabrics are fourway stretch so they don’t restrict dad’s golf swing.

“Function is really the biggest deal with all of the shirts we offer,” said Roderick, noting that on a cool day, a long-sleeve coLLo shirt keeps you warm without hampering your swing like wearing a long sleeve T-shirt under a short sleeve golf shirt does.

If you care about the environment, you can feel The Becks golf shirt has a high collar that protects your neck from the sun. good about giving dad coLLo’s long-sleeve Becks shirt because it features material made from 15 recycled plastic bottles. The Becks, which comes in gray or blue, retails for $80 at colloapparel.com. A percentage of retail sales benefit skin cancer treatment at the Eisenhower Medical Center in California.

Dad also can get protection from the sun by wearing a broad-brimmed hat like the ones made by Wallaroo Hat Company.

The new, lightweight, good-looking Charleston is made from twisted seagrass, is UPF 50+ and comes with an adjustable, removable chin strap, so dad can wear it on the Wallaroo’s Charleston hat offers great protection fron the sun. windiest days. It sells for $48 at wallaroohats.com and several local retailers.

Dad will play better if he’s comfortable, which is what Underwear For Men is all about. UFM features an adjustable pouch that is soft yet supportive.

“It has drawstring technology … basically offering support, comfort and virtually eliminating chafe,” said UFM sales manager Bill Crane. “For golfers it’s fantastic. You’re out there walking in the heat, it’s almost like carrying another club in your bag.”

UFM is available in briefs and 6- and 9-inch boxer briefs, and made from quick-drying polyester or bamboo.

UFM is available in extra small to 3X sizes and several colors. Prices start at $24.95 at ufmunderwear.com, which currently has a Father’s Day promo code to get $5 off per pair.

People who wear ECCO golf shoes rave about how comfortable they are, and the Men’s Cage Pro BOA could be the company’s most comfortable yet.

The innovative shoes have two inner soles, and the top one can be removed to accommodate wide feet. The BOA closure system, a first for ECCO golf shoes, replaces laces and allows for a secure, easily adjustable fit. Dad just pushes down the dial and turns it until the shoes are snug and pops up the dial to loosen the shoes and slip his foot out.

The shoes also have a new and very different ECCO Spydr-Grip outsole. Instead of the traction bars in ECCO’s spikeless models, the Spydr-Grip looks like a spider web with precisely positioned pivot points to grip the turf while walking and swinging, although dad might have to step carefully if he walks on a tile floor after coming in from the rain.

The shoes retail for $230 at us.shop.ecco.com and area golf and department stores.
