Police say surveillance video shows WR Kalib Woods punching two men in incident.

Surveillance video from The Venue banquet hall allegedly shows Florida Atlantic receiver Kalib Woods punching two men “several times” in the early morning hours of Jan.13, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office offense report.

Woods was arrested June 13 and charged with two counts of felony battery. FAU’s football team suspended him indefinitely, “pending the outcome of the charges,” the school said Wednesday.

The police obtained a DVD of the surveillance footage on Feb. 8 and “saw Kalib Woods and a thin unknown black male with multiple tattoos approach Adrian Muckle and Stephan Reese inside The Venue nightclub,” the report said. Police wrote that Woods struck Muckle and Reese several times with a closed fist, and Muckle and Reese were kicked “while laying defenseless on the ground.”

Police wrote that Reese and Muckle did not attempt to punch or kick Woods during the incident. Reese suffered a broken jaw that required surgery and his mouth to be wired shut, the report said. Muckle told police he was hospitalized for five days with internal bleeding after he discovered discolored urine.

According to the report, Woods twice confirmed that he was at The Venue that night, but denied his involvement in any altercation or fight. Police first contacted Woods via telephone shortly after Reese spoke with police Jan. 16, and Woods agreed to meet with an investigator later that week, the report said.

On Jan. 20, police met Woods outside FAU’s football stadium to talk about the incident, according to the report. Woods told police that he attended a FAU fraternity party with his girlfriend, but said he wasn’t involved in an altercation “nor did he witness an altercation,” the report said.

In addition to Reese’s and Muckle’s statements, police also spoke with FAU student Austin Harris, the report said. In a sworn written statement, Harris said a shirtless Woods approached Harris, Reese and Muckle on the dance floor and punched Muckle’s face several times.

Harris told police “that it wasn’t a mutual fight because Kalib and several other unknown males jumped” Muckle. Harris also told investigators that he’d played basketball against Woods before.

Muckle told police that Woods was upset at him for a foul in a basketball game over a year ago, and said he received threats from Woods “in person multiple times and over social media (Twitter) where he basically states at the next event he sees me, he was going to assault me.” Police entered Twitter messages between Woods and Muckle into evidence, the report said.

Last week, FAU Athletic Director Pat Chun said the school would handle suspensions on a case-by-case basis. Chun also said the athletic department’s decision was tertiary to other processes.

“We’re kind of the third priority between the law, whatever policies are on campus or student affairs and then it’s us,” Chun said. “Every case is always going to be very different at the end of the day.”

Woods led all FAU receivers last year with 68 catches for 934 yards. He also caught one touchdown and received Conference USA Honorable Mention accolades. Woods was a team captain last year and figured to enter his redshirt senior season as one of firstyear coach Lane Kiffin’s best offensive players.

Woods’ arraignment is scheduled for July 20 at 8:30 a.m.
