Man dead after I-95 fight

- Staff report

A man died after he was repeatedly stabbed during a fight on the shoulder of Interstate 95, the Florida Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

Trouble flared after a crash involving a possible road rage incident on southbound I-95 just north of Blue Heron Boulevard at about 3 p.m. Tuesday, said FHP Sgt. John Baker.

One vehicle side-swiped another in the crash, the highway patrol said. “The victim was stabbed several times significantly, all over the body, the head, the torso, the arms,” said FHP Sgt. Tony Kingery.

The man who was stabbed, Duvarn Fraser, 26, of West Palm Beach was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in critical condition. He died shortly after 9:30 p.m., Baker said.

Fraser’s father, Derrick Fraser, said he doesn’t understand what happened. “I hope we learn exactly what happened because that’s what’s bothering me,” Fraser told Sun Sentinel news partner WPEC-CBS 12.

The two other men involved in the incident, brothers Mario Rene Briceno, 44, of Lake Worth and Jose Rene Briceno Escober, 49, of West Palm Beach, were taken to the highway patrol station in Lake Worth where they were questioned and later released, Baker said.

A knife and a firearm were found at the scene of the fight, officials said.

The firearm belonged to Fraser and the knife belonged to one of the two brothers, officials said.
