Uber, Marlins set up an “Uber Zone.”

MIAMI — Using Uber at Marlins Park just got easier.

The Miami Marlins announced Wednesday a partnership with the ride-hailing company that includes a designated pickup/drop-off lot near the ballpark’s East Plaza. Lot E2, across from the Clevelander, stretches along 14th Avenue (also known as Orange Bowl Way) from Northwest Fifth Street to Northwest Fourth Street.

The “Uber Zone” will be in use during all Marlins games and other events at Marlins Park, including next month’s All-Star festivities.

“We are very excited with our new partnership with Uber as we continue to find ways to improve the overall fan experience at Marlins Park,” club president David Samson said in a release. “The designated lot will provide fans with another transportation option when attending Marlins games, special events, and all the upcoming All-Star Game activities in July.”

Partnerships with Uber and similar companies are becoming more common in professional sports. The Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers are two examples in baseball, and Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens last summer debuted an Uber Zone used for Miami Dolphins and UM football games, among other events.

The sentiment Kasra Moshkani, general manager for Uber in South Florida, expressed at the time of the Dolphins-Uber announcement is true for Marlins Park, too.

“It’s about safety as well,” Moshkani said then. “If fans have had too much to drink, the idea is they can open the app and get a safe ride home from the game.”

As part of the Marlins’ deal with Uber, the team will honor UberMILITARY Driver Partners during Monday home games the rest of the season. Riders can nominate their servicemember/military veteran Uber drivers to receive free tickets and in-game recognition.
