FORT LAUDERDALE — A man accused of killing a Davie woman and making a notorious escape from the Broward County Courthouse has another charge to defend.

Dayonte Resiles, 22, of Lauderdale Lakes, appeared in bond court Thursday to hear a burglary charge added by Fort Lauderdale police. Resiles was already being held without bond in the Broward County jail.

He was arrested in September 2014 on suspicion of killing Jill Halliburton Su, of Davie, during a burglary of her home. Davie police say a knife with Su’s and Resiles’ DNA was found at the house.

Resiles has pleaded not guilty.

During a court hearing in July 2016, Resiles is accused of undoing his shackles and fleeing four flights of stairs and out of the main county courthouse to a waiting car in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Courthouse video recorded a portion of his escape. He was captured five days later in a West Palm Beach motel.

The Fort Lauderdale break-in happened during daylight hours on June 26, 2014, at an unoccupied house in the 2600 block of North Atlantic Boulevard near the ocean, south of East Oakland Park Boulevard.

Jewelry and other property worth an estimated $10,000 was taken, police said.

Blood found in the master bedroom and shower was analyzed and identified Resiles, a police report said.

The Fort Lauderdale charge is among more than two dozen offenses Resiles is defending, according to a list in jail records that include murder, gun possession by a delinquent; escape; grand theft, unlawful use of a false name/identity and burglary.

Resiles could face the death penalty if he is convicted in the Halliburton Su homicide.
