Rickie Hemingway, left, has been hired as the full-time head football coach at Dillard High.

Dillard has its football coach for the fall.

Rickie Hemingway, who was hired temporarily after Lorenzo Davis resigned in late April, was recently hired by the Fort Lauderdale high school for the permanent position.

A first-time head coach but veteran assistant, Hemingway oversaw the Panthers’ spring practices and their May 19 scrimmage against Miramar.

“I think some of the things we did in the spring kept me in the role,” Hemingway said. “A lot of kids liked what we were doing.”

Hemingway added that core players like cornerback Stanley Garner and quarterback Moise Francois voiced their support of him to Dillard athletic director Tracie Latimer.

“Coach Hemingway is a great leader,” said junior defensive end Braylen Ingraham. “He is constantly on you and motivates you to give him 100 percent every time on the field.”

Hemingway has retained Davis’ coaching staff.

Davis said he resigned so as to watch his son, junior CB Jaden Davis, play at St. Thomas Aquinas.

Hemingway has spent 14 seasons as a position coach at Dillard. He also was an assistant at Plantation and Stranahan.
