SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE Capt. Mario Coté of No Vacansea said there was a good kingfish bite in 160-180 feet for boats fishing out of Port Everglades Inlet, but it slowed Thursday. Some dolphin were in 850 feet, but that bite also slowed. Bonitos have been abundant. His anglers were also catching amberjacks and a few mutton snappers. Capt. Chris Lemieux of Le-Mieux Charters said there’s been “a ton of kings mixed with bonitos in 80-100 feet” off Boynton Beach. Lots of dolphin were biting anywhere from 80-1,200 feet. THE KEYS Fishing for dolphin has been excellent, so that’s what most offshore anglers have been targeting. Snappers and groupers were biting on some of the deeper reefs. SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE Permit in the Gulf of Mexico and big mangrove snappers and tripletails around the river mouths were biting for anglers fishing out of Chokoloskee Island. EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER Big soft-plastic snakes and frogs were catching bass in the canals along Alligator Alley near mile marker 41. Capt. Alan Zaremba of Hollywood said his anglers were sight-fishing for peacock bass in urban canals using jigs and Clouser minnow flies. LAKE OKEECHOBEE Bass were biting topwater plugs and spinnerbaits early in the morning, then anglers were catching fish by flipping creature baits in mats of vegetation. OUTDOORS NOTEBOOK
