July 6-11: PLAY BALL Park

PLAY BALL Park is a free All-Star Week attraction located at Bayfront Park (301 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) that will be accessible to children and parents from Thursday through July 11.

The area, about one acre in size, will feature a youth-sized turf diamond featuring daily programmin­g and open play, as well as batting tunnels, pitching inflatable­s and a stickball alley. Special appearance­s will be made by the likes of Hall of Famer Johnny Bench and two-time Olympic softball gold medalist Jennie Finch.

Each youngster who participat­es in PLAY BALL Park activities will receive a plastic or foam bat and ball set and a T-shirt.

Marlins prospects Brian Anderson and Tayron Guerrero were chosen for the U.S. and World teams, respective­ly. Locals Lewis Brinson (Coral Springs High) and Zack Collins (American Heritage-Plantation and University of Miami) will also play.

The game starts at 4 p.m. and will be televised on MLB Network.

The Legends and Celebrity Softball Game will be played after the Futures Game and will feature several former athletes and celebritie­s — many with South Florida ties. They include Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, Miami Dolphins legend Jason Taylor and baseball greats Pudge Rodriguez

and Andre Dawson. While the game will be played all-star-game
