Q: I have been driving from Boca Raton to downtown Miami for 22 years. Does the Florida Department of Transportation have any plans to address the significant
delays at the Golden Glades Interchange between Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 95? — Robert F. Salkowski, Delray Beach
A: An estimated three years of construction is scheduled to begin in September 2021 to relieve congestion through the Golden Glades Interchange (GGI). Among the plans:
Widening the southbound lanes of the turnpike connector to accommodate two lanes from Florida’s Turnpike and three lanes from eastbound Palmetto Expressway to southbound I-95;
Providing a direct connection flyover ramp from eastbound Palmetto Expressway to northbound I-95;
Rebuilding the eastbound Palmetto Expressway connection between Northwest 167th Street and Florida’s Turnpike to accommodate two eastbound lanes;
Widening I-95 north of the GGI to accommodate a future direct express lane connection between the Palmetto Expressway and I-95;
Rebuilding Palmetto Expressway between Northwest 17th Avenue and the GGI to accommodate future I-95 express lane connections.
