Today marks the start of 2017 All-Star events in South Florida, with the opening of PLAY BALL Park at Bayfront Park (301 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). The one-acre interactiv­e attraction is for children and teenagers, who can play baseball and softball and take part in other activities. It is free to attend, and each participan­t will receive a plastic or foam bat & ball set made by Franklin and a PLAY BALL-branded T-shirt. Scheduled programmin­g and “free play” for the general public begin today (1-3 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.). The official opening ceremony is at 6 p.m. The park is also scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day through Saturday, plus Sunday (noon to 7 p.m.), Monday (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and Tuesday (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). ON DECK FanFest’s opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Dr, Miami Beach). The venue will then be open each day through Monday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., and on Tuesday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
