Q: Is there a projected completion date for the roadwork that has restricted traffic on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Pompano Beach and Coconut Creek between

Powerline Road and Florida’s Turnpike? It seems the road has been under construction, off and on, for quite some time with seemingly a lot still to be done. — Dan Hobby, Coconut Creek

A: The $4 million Streetscape Improvement Project should be wrapping up by the end of August, according to Sandra King, with the City of Pompano Beach.

“It will include new sidewalks, bus shelters, landscaped medians, new street lighting, and upgraded utilities, including water, sewage and drainage,” she said.

That stretch of road will be repaved to restore two lanes in each direction, east and west.

The construction started in January and is designed to improve the increasingly busy corridor that handles traffic from Powerline Road, Northwest 27th, 30th, and 31st avenues, Florida’s Turnpike and the north campus of Broward College. An estimated 24,000 vehicles traveled that road each day last year, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Q: I travel on McNab Road up to eight times per day. I am forced to stop at the light at Northwest 21st Avenue about 65 percent of the time. The traffic gets really backed up on McNab during rush hours.

Who would I have to speak to about getting this looked at? — Donald King, Pompano Beach

A: You can always speak to Dr. Detour, but you may have noticed a change already.

Broward County traffic engineers have been working on the signal timing on three McNab Road intersections at Northwest 31st and 21st avenues and Powerline Road.

The signals were not synchronized before because McNab Road is considered a minor arterial roadway.

But with all the traffic on Cypress Creeek Road, a major artery that runs parallel to the south, more drivers are using McNab as an alternate and increasing backups.
