When called to a Hollywood home Sunday night, police found Marquise Jamal Reeves covered in blood and lying on the living room floor; nearby was an opened, green-handled folding knife.

Reeves, 24, had tried to stop an argument about sex between his mother, Stephanie Gardner, and her live-in boyfriend, Richard Tyrone Walker Jr., 34, Hollywood police said.

As the men fought, Gardner locked herself in the bedroom of the home in the 2300 block of Charleston Street and called police.

Walker told investigators his conflict with Reeves began when the son forced open the couple’s locked bedroom door.

The men’s argument moved to another room, where Reeves punched Walker in the jaw and they moved to a couch, a police report said.

While Reeves was on top of him, Walker thought he was reaching for an unknown object. Walker stabbed Reeves, possibly twice, in his right torso, he told police.

Walker helped Reeves sit up so he could breathe before he ran away from the house, according to the report.

Hollywood Fire Rescue took Reeves to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he died.

Walker called his father, who picked him up about 10 blocks south on North 22nd Avenue just north of Sheridan Street. Somewhere in between the house and where he met his father, Walker tossed his blood-soaked shirt into a dumpster, police said.

The elder man drove his son to the police station, where he turned himself in.

Walker was arrested on suspicion of committing murder without premeditation, and is being held without bond in a Broward County jail.
