DAVIE — The accolades and hyperbole continue to roll in for Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker. The most recent came Thursday from wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson, who was asked how good Parker could be this year if he reached his ceiling.

“He’ll be a monster,” Jefferson said of the 2015 firstround pick from Louisville. “If he keeps progressing like we think he can, he’ll be invited to the Monster Bowl after the Super Bowl.

“His name is not DeVante, he’s a Monster. So if he keeps performing like this he’ll be invited to the Monster Ball after the season is over.”

This high praise follows offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen’s in May, when he said of Parker, “I really think he’ll have a great big year, a gigantic year for us.”

Parker, for the record, agreed with Christensen that he’s poised to have a big season.

But Parker first must show he can stay healthy — he’s been afflicted by foot and hamstring problems — and then show he has the maturity to do the things he’s supposed to do: such as staying hydrated, getting enough rest, being attentive to his diet and practicing hard every day.

Parker is seen as the missing link of sorts to a threeman wide receivers crew that’s being regarded by some among the best in the NFL. Jarvis Landry is a Pro Bowl selection and fellow wide receiver Kenny Stills is an established deep threat.

That leaves Parker, who had 56 receptions for 744 yards and four touchdowns last season and 26 receptions for 494 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie.

If Parker delivers, the Dolphins’ starting wide receivers trio could live up to its preseason hype as a top unit in the league.

Actually, told his crew has been regarded in such a fashion, Jefferson offered no resistance.

“I would agree with that,” he said of the lofty assessment. “I would agree with that. We have three talented receivers, and the good thing about it is they work. They work. They’re very smart, too.

“You guys have seen during the spring, DeVante, his maturation has been outstanding. And it’s still progressing even through this training camp.

“I do have three good guys and we’ve just got to continue every day to put the work in and I think we’ll be fine.”
