Landry, girlfriend incident reviewed

Miami Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry is under investigation for an alleged domestic battery incident at his apartment in Fort Lauderdale earlier this year, according to court records.

Estrella Cerqueira, who was Landry’s girlfriend and is the mother of his daughter, released a statement Monday saying she was not harmed during a “vocal disagreement” with Landry.

No arrest has been made, and the Broward County State Attorney’s office is reviewing the case to determine if Landry will face formal charges.

“Fort Lauderdale police have presented to the State Attorney’s office their investigation of an allegation against Mr. Landry,” State Attorney’s office spokesman Ron Ishoy said in a statement Monday. “We are now reviewing the matter; we do not expect a decision this week. I have no other details.”

The incident was reported to police shortly before 10:30 p.m. on April 1, according to the incident report’s cover sheet. The full report is not being released because the investigation is still open, police said Monday. The report’s cover lists hands, fist, teeth and feet as weapons.

Court records show that Landry, 24, is the defendant in an open paternity court case that was filed in April by Cerqueira.

Cerqueira released a statement Monday through Landry’s publicist that said she and Landry had a “vocal disagreement that resulted in someone calling 911.” Cerqueira’s statement says Landry never harmed her and that police determined there was no cause for an arrest when they arrived.

“I was not in any way physically harmed,” the statement said. “Yes, we are going through a civil family court case and emotions are high, but I would like to make it very clear that Jarvis would never, ever do anything to harm me or anyone else. Jarvis and I are happily raising our beautiful daughter.”

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said Monday that team is aware of the investigation.

Landry was not made available to speak to reporters at the conclusion of Monday’s practice.

Landry is a two-time Pro Bowl selection who has led the Dolphins in receptions for the past two seasons. He and his agent have been lobbying for a multiyear contract extension this offseason after the former LSU standout caught 94 passes for 1,136 yards and scored four touchdowns last year.
