The American Red Cross South Florida Region has named Joanne Nowlin as its chief executive officer. Nowlin will oversee five chapters in the region serving nearly eight million people across 13 counties. Most recently, Nowlin was with Florida Atlantic University as director of development, northern campuses, overseeing all fundraising from West Palm Beach to Vero Beach. She was also interim vice president for the FAU Division of Institutional Advancement and interim CEO of the FAU Foundation. Before that, she was executive director of the Southern Florida and Puerto Rico chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She was also president and CEO of Gilda’s Club South Florida, and director of annual giving for Kids in Distress in Fort Lauderdale. Boca West Community Charitable Foundation has hired Jennifer Bate as its first executive director. Bate was most recently the communications and marketing director at Sarasota Yacht Club. Before that, she was an associate at Credit Suisse and a compliance intern at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Bill Peterson has assumed the role of board chair. Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope, the organization that seeks to ease the financial burdens facing qualified local cancer patients by paying their nonmedical bills and providing them information, announced officers for the 2017-2018 board of directors: Chris Cox, board chair, Laura King, treasurer, Stacy CoffeeThorne, secretary, Judi Richards, first vice chair, Don Urschalitz, second vice chair, and Nancy Mobberley, immediate past chair.
