remains a member of the Heat … even though he was selected by the Memphis Hustle in the second round of Wednesday’s G-League expansion draft.

The upshot is that if White is not among the 15 players on the Heat’s opening-night roster, then his development-league rights would default to the Grizzlies’ expansion team in the G-League (formerly the D-League).

Under NBA/G-League rules, if a player receives more than a $50,000 guarantee and then is cut, he cannot be sent as an affiliate player to that team’s GLeague affiliate. In White’s case, that means than if he is waived by the Heat, he would have to either play overseas or with the Hustle.

However, if White makes the Heat’s 15-player opening-night cut, then he could be sent to the Heat’s G-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, on assignment, as long as he continues to count against the Heat’s NBA roster limit.

White was selected off the Skyforce’s roster, with four teams joining the GLeague this season. The Skyforce also lost the rights to who was selected in the first round of the expansion draft by the Wisconsin Heard, the Bucks’ new G-League affiliate. Those were the lone Skyforce players selected.

Also selecting Wednesday were the Erie Bayhawks, the new affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, and Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario, the Los Angeles Clippers’ new affiliate.
