Alfred Angelo brides are out of luck again

Bulk auction for wedding dresses

Denise Young, a Sunrise bride-to-be, was all set to go to the Alfred Angelo Bridal auction at its Deerfield Beach warehouse this Saturday.

“This is a great opportunit­y,” said Young, who hoped to snag at fancy Alfred Angelo wedding dress for a bargain price.

But she and other brides are again out of luck in buying a dress or accessorie­s from the auction. No individual dresses will be sold, said Stan Crooks, the auctioneer hired for the 9 a.m. Sept. 2 auction of Alfred Angelo Bridal’s warehouse contents.

Instead, Alfred Angelo trustee Margaret Smith has decided the logistics of selling individual dresses and items would be too difficult. So Crooks will be auctioning the dresses and other items in bulk, to bridal salons and other retailers, and wholesaler­s. For bulk buyers, the auction will be at 602 S. Military Trail, Building 2, Unit 692, Deerfield Beach.

“We’re getting a national interest,” said Crooks. He said some major retailers are interested in featuring the wedding dress line at their stores.

Besides nearly 5,000 dresses, the warehouse contains many bridal accessorie­s including tiaras, jewelry, slips and crinolines, beads, lace appliques, snaps, zippers and hooks, he said.
