WR Robinson suspended for opener

- Edgar Thompson

GAINESVILLE — UF coach freshman WR this time.

McElwain confirmed Robinson is suspended and would not play in Saturday’s opener against Michigan after he was cited last week for marijuana possession.

“Thought that was perfectly obviously,” McElwain said when asked if Robinson would play Saturday. “Of course not.”

Robinson and LB another freshman from Lakeland, were cited Aug. 21 when a police officer found two bags of marijuana in their dorm room.

It is the second marijuana-related incident this year for Robinson. He was cited for possession Jan. 29 during a recruiting visit to Ohio State. Three days later, Robinson signed with the Gators. While not pleased with Robinson’s latest misstep, McElwain will stick behind him.

“It’s always disappointing. That’s part of growing up,” McElwain said. “Thats part of making choices and understanding based on those choices really determines what's going to happen with you. Yet, I’m not giving up on him."

Eight players will be suspended Saturday, headlined by WR Callaway and six teammates, including Miller, were involved in a scheme that misused school-issued funds.

McElwain said none of the seven players has returned to the team.
