Harley could start for Hurricanes
CORAL GABLES — While the Miami Hurricanes have depth issues at some positions, receiver isn’t one of them.
Senior is back. So is former freshman All-American Veteran
has performed well in camp after recovering from the knee injury that sidelined him last season.
Add into that mix talented and speedy newcomers like former St. Thomas Aquinas standout and fellow freshman and No. 18 Miami feels good about the receivers group.
Hurricanes coach said Monday during an interview on WQAM that one of those freshmen could start Saturday against Bethune-Cookman if Richards — who has been nursing a hamstring injury — can’t play.
“It will probably be Harley at flanker, Berrios in the slot and probably Cager at X,” Richt said when asked about his potential starters. “We would normally have Ahmmon. If Ahmmon is healthy, Ahmmon will be X and Cager would be the flanker. But with Ahmmon out, we moved Cager back to what he grew up on with us. And then Harley and
both of those kids would play a good bit if Ahmmon is out.”
Harley, who is 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, has proven to be one of the speediest players on the field.
“Mike Harley is not a huge guy, but he’s fast, he’s a great route-runner,” Richt said. “And this guy loves football, man. He will do anything he can do to help this team win.”
