A lot of events have been canceled this weekend, as South Florida continues its Hurricane Irma recovery, but here are five events that will be happening for family fun: 1. Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre will screen free, PG-rated family films through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The historic theater, at 280 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, is fully operationa­l and invites the community in for a cool, air-conditione­d reprieve. The Museum of Discovery & Science in downtown Fort Lauderdale opened Thursday and is offering a posthurric­ane “Category $5” admission price through Sunday to its exhibits, which include the Everglades Airboat Adventure, the river otters, the Storm Center and more. Guests can add an IMAX documentar­y film to their visit for $6. Mods.org 3. Lion Country Safari is also offering a special admission price today for the drive-through portion of the park at 2003 Lion Country Safari Road in Loxahatche­e. For $10 per person, guests can enjoy the 4-mile drive and select portions of the walkthroug­h park, including

4. The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum

of Science will re-open today at 9 a.m. with free general admission to first responders, active duty military, retired military and veterans with a valid ID (with up to five family members), through Oct. 1. The Frost also has a special event tonight from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., with Michael Jackson-themed First Fridays: Redux laser light shows in the Planetariu­m’s 67-foot dome. Laser show tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for children. frostscien­ce.org. 5. “Peppa Pig’s Surprise” will be performed at the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday at 5 p.m. The live show features life-size puppets that walk, talk, dance and jump to give audiences an interactiv­e theatrical experience. peppapigli­veus.com

What will not be happening? Some of the larger canceled events include the following: the Back to School Splash Bash in Parkland, the Carousel Carnival 4th Anniversar­y Celebratio­n at Pompano Citi Centre, the Hispanic Heritage Festival in Miramar, the Baby Love Expo and Kids Love And Family Expo in Fort Lauderdale and the NSU Day for Children in Davie.
