Owls focused on limiting mistakes

BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic quarterback Daniel Parr admits he was trying to do a little too much.

With the Owls attempting to put more points on the board just before halftime Saturday against BethuneCookman, Parr made an errant throw that was intercepted. It was one of the team’s few mistakes in the 45-0 victory, but he knows he has to make better decisions.

“I tried to force that throw late in the half,” Parr said. “I tried to get us down inside the red zone. I shouldn’t have done that. It’s something I’ve got to learn from and just move on with it.”

It was the second interception of the season for Parr, who has been solid in three starts. He’s completed 43 of 75 passes for 588 yards and four touchdowns.

“Any time I throw a pick, it’s obviously on me,” Parr said. “I just think I got a little greedy.”

Although coach Lane Kiffin was impressed with the win, he knows they have to limit the errors as the competition improves the remainder of the season. Kiffin was disappointed with the two turnovers — running back Devin Singletary fumbled at the goal line — and the eight penalties against Bethune.

FAU plays at Buffalo on Saturday before opening Conference USA play the following week at home against Middle Tennessee State.

“We have to get better at that because obviously we play better teams,” Kiffin said. “That’s going to haunt us.”
