Due to Hurricane Irma, the Sun Sentinel has extended the deadline for entries to its annual Top Workplace of the Year program, where local employers agree to let their employees submit comments as to why their organization should be honored as a top workplace in South Florida.

The new deadline for submitting nominations is Oct. 20.

Public and private sector employers, both profit and nonprofit with 35 or more employees in South Florida, are eligible to participate. For the rankings, employers are placed into groups of similar size.

As part of the program, workplaces are evaluated by their employees using a 24-question survey conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, the Sun Sentinel’s research partner for the project. Results will be published in the Sun Sentinel in April and the toprated companies will be publicly recognized at a luncheon event.

So far, 80 South Florida companies have agreed to take the challenge of surveying their employees.

Participants represent a variety of industry sectors: health care, services, retail, finance, hospitality and entertainment, advertising and marketing, utilities, construction, technology, law and nonprofits, among others.

Last year, the Sun Sentinel recognized 65 companies and organizations in South Florida. A total of 97 organizations were surveyed with 9,740 employees submitting responses.

Ranking first in the Large Employer category was: Vi, a senior living community operator; Midsize: Power Financial Credit Union; and in the Small category: Supreme Lending Southeast Region.
