Cops: Suspect in shooting may be linked to killing
WEST PARK A 19-year-old accused of wounding a man in a driveby shooting is also being investigated for links to an April shooting that left a woman dead in West Park, investigators said Wednesday.
Jaron Brown, of Hollywood, is charged with attempted murder in connection with a June 27 shooting about 1:40 p.m. in the 2800 block of Southwest 55th Avenue in West Park that wounded a man.
Brown was driving a Honda Civic that sped away from deputies after the shooting, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. A gun was tossed from the car and, when a pursuit ended in Hollywood, Brown was taken into custody while others who were with him fled, investigators said.
Detectives are investigating whether the gun recovered from the drive-by shooting, or Brown himself, played a role in the April fatal shooting of a woman and the wounding of her boyfriend and young daughter in West Park, the sheriff ’s office said.
On April 13, in a car outside the home at 4521 SW 22nd St., gunfire killed Patrice Nunnally, 28, and wounded her daughter, Kalaya Clark, 9, and her fiance, Tyrell Myrick, also 28.
The identity of the man who was shot in June is being temporarily withheld because of fear for his safety, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Joy Oglesby said Wednesday. It was not possible to determine the extent of his injuries or current condition, officials said.
Brown is being held without bond.
Investigators declined to say why they think Brown or the gun may be linked to the April 13 shooting, Oglesby said.
The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information about either of the cases to call homicide Detective John Curcio at 954-321-4212 or contact Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
