Williams gives Knights a boost

- Chris Hays

Freshman UCF wide receiver found himself in an odd position following the Knights’ 51-23 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday. He was sitting atop UCF’s list of leading rushers.

Granted it was just one carry and it was his only touch of the game, but his 47-yard run in the first half, during a drive that eventually ended in a field goal, was just another way the Knights have figured out how to spread the ball around among their playmakers.

“We’re continually looking for ways to get those guys the ball,” UCF coach said. We’re starting to develop a lot of weapons in this offense. … We’re looking for ways to get them touches and they’re making the most of the touches.”

Williams, a freshman from Mobile, Ala., who originally had committed to Southern Cal, is happy he’s at UCF.

“It feels pretty good . ... We just gotta keep it up,” Williams said. “I knew I made right choice the day I signed, but now I’m very comfortable about my decision.”

Offensive guard whom the Knights thought they had back to full strength after offseason knee surgery, did not play against Memphis or Cincinnati after making his first appearance of the season at Maryland.

Frost said he’s optimistic on Hudanick returning soon, but he’s not rushing it.

“We thought he was going to go again this week [at Cincinnati],” Frost said. “We’re being a little cautious with him to make sure he’s all the way back.”
