Police first traced the pup’s cry to a suitcase behind an abandoned Hollywood building. Then they saw a dog paw sticking out of the suitcase.

Inside the sealed blue suitcase they found a bloodied pit bull, severely injured with deep lacerations on top of its head and cuts across its body.

The sad canine discovery was made shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday at 1945 Lee Street, east of North Dixie Highway and south of Sheridan Street, said Miranda Grossman, a spokeswoman for the Hollywood Police Department.

The dog, now named Ollie, was taken to VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital for treatment. A veterinarian there said the animal had been stabbed multiple times and beaten, Grossman said.

Ollie is a terrier mix, about a year old. He will be neutered and microchipped as soon as medically possible.

Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue, 1881 SW 21st St., Fort Lauderdale, is looking to pair Ollie with a foster home. Visit gratefulpaws.org for more information.
