Broward Top 10 football rankings

- — David Furones

This week, top-ranked American Heritage will visit No. 3 Cardinal Gibbons. A district title is on the line, as well as home-field advantage in a likely regional matchup between the top two teams in all of Class 5A. Games at 7 p.m. on Friday unless noted. 1. (1) AMERICAN HERITAGE (5-0) The Patriots picked up a 42-3 win in District 16-5A against Stranahan and remain at the top of Broward County.

Next: at No. 3 Cardinal Gibbons 2. (2) ST. THOMAS AQUINAS (5-1) The Raiders shut out No. 4 Deerfield Beach, winning 14-0 after getting shut out in Arizona the previous week.

Next: vs. Fort Lauderdale 3. (3) CARDINAL GIBBONS (5-0) The Chiefs went down to Miami last Tuesday night to pick up a district win against Miami Jackson.

Next: vs. No. 1 American Heritage 4. (4) DEERFIELD BEACH (3-2) The Bucks offense was shut down against Aquinas, but the defense remains one of the best. A close loss at Aquinas is not enough to bump the Bucks down.

Next: at Douglas, Saturday 7 p.m. 5. (5) CHAMINADE-MADONNA (3-2) The Lions were idle and will face a perennial state power from Miami.

Next: vs. Booker T. Washington, Thursday 4 p.m. 6. (7) UNIVERSITY SCHOOL (4-0) The Sharks lost the No. 6 spot in an idle week when Miramar added two district wins. They get it back after an impressive showing in a 35-14 victory at American Heritage-Delray.

Next: vs. Homestead Everglades Prep Academy 7. (6) MIRAMAR (5-1) The Patriots did what they were supposed to against Flanagan in a 49-14 win. U-School just took the spot back. Next: vs. Hallandale, Saturday 7 p.m. 8. (8) WESTERN (6-0) The Wildcats dominated Cypress Bay 48-7. They up the ante with a bigger District 12-8A matchup next.

Next: at No. 9 Plantation 9. (9) PLANTATION (5-1) The Colonels crushed Everglades 41-14. Now they have a chance to take the No. 8 spot.

Next: vs. No. 8 Western 10. (10) NOVA (5-0) The Titans stay put after taking it to Fort Lauderdale 40-27.

Next: at Cooper City On the bubble: Dillard, West Broward, Cooper City, Stranahan.
