Give state’s adopted adults their rights
Imagine having your rights removed as you are placed in the arms of your new loving family? That is adoption law in Florida. If you are a minor, this arrangement occurs without your consent. For the rest of your life you are treated as a minor; your records are sealed, unable to be viewed except, possibly, for dire circumstances. Should this continue forever? Are we not enlightened? Do others not understand the importance of self- knowledge?
Thanks to Rep. Richard Stark, District 104, Weston, his co-sponsors in the Florida Legislature, and with citizens’ support, his new Adoptee Rights Bill could become law in 2018. Now is the time to change the arcane law that seals original birth certificates from their rightful owners.
