Seminoles face receiver shortage

- Safid Deen

TALLAHASSEE — Florida State’s receivers, one of the thinnest units on the Seminoles team this season, are starting to show their lack of depth after the first four games.

Junior receiver who leads the Seminoles with 16 catches for 282 yards and has four touchdown receptions, continues to practice and play with an AC separation in his left shoulder.

Sophomore FSU’s second-leading receiver with 14 catches for 134 yards and a kick-return specialist, is dealing with a significant ankle sprain that requires a substantial protective boot and crutches. He suffered the injury in last week’s loss to Miami.

Third-year receiver who has six receptions for 122 yards, is still nursing a core muscle injury that forced him to redshirt with the Seminoles last season.

With the setbacks, junior receiver hopes to emerge as a leader in the position group, which could depend more on true freshmen and and former walk-on

Next game: Auden Tate, Keith Gavin, Tamorrion Terry George Campbell, Nyqwan Murray D.J. Matthews Jared Jackson.

“It’s a lot more responsibility,” said Murray, who has 13 catches for 99 yards, on Tuesday. “All the guys are down. The freshmen have to step up, next man up. I have to take more charge of the receiving corp.” FSU (1-3, 1-2 ACC) is three games into a grueling stretch of 10 consecutive games to end the season. FSU at Duke, Saturday, noon, ESPN2
