Frost takes snaps as scout team QB
UCF coach Scott Frost isn’t afraid to get down and dirty when it comes to teaching his players what they need to know about stopping Navy’s option offense.
Frost put on a helmet and took snaps as the scout team quarterback during practice this week.
“You see him in there running around getting us prepared,” UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin said Monday after the Knights’ workout. “It’s crazy because he is running so fast that if you are slacking, it’s going to show.”
Frost ran an option offense as a quarterback at Nebraska, leading the Cornhuskers to a national title, and has worked to stay in shape after his pro football career ended.
Quarterback McKenzie Milton didn’t see his coach taking snaps against the defense Monday, but he’s not surprised.
“I’m sure he’s giving them a good look,” Milton said. “He’s done that for a number of years at Nebraska, so he’s still a pretty good athlete at 42.” Frost isn’t worried about his players holding back. “If I was out there, I wouldn’t need them to take it easy on me,” he said after practice Monday.
Frost may have been trying to keep his scout team work under the radar, but his players discussed it with reporters and UCF director of football operations Gerrod Lambrecht posted a video on Twitter Tuesday showing Frost running the option, scampering to the left after faking a handoff and an option pitch.
