Gators will face healthier Bulldogs

- Staff and wire report

ATHENS, Ga. — Two key starters, defensive tackle Trenton Thompson and wide receiver Terry Godwin, have returned to practice for No. 3 Georgia in its bye week.

Thompson has missed two games with a right knee injury. Godwin left last Saturday’s 53-28 win over Missouri with injured ribs.

Also, outside linebacker Davin Bellamy has shed the club he wore to protect a broken bone in his left hand.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart says Godwin was “great” and Thompson is “bouncing back” and is expected to play against Florida on Oct. 28 in Jacksonville.

Linebacker Reggie Carter, who has had an undisclosed injury, also practiced on Tuesday.

Two defensive linemen who missed the Missouri game with injuries, David Marshall and DaQuan HawkinsMuckle, did not practice. Smart told reporters he hasn’t focused much on the Gators, who are dealing with their own injury issues and may be rolling out different players against the Bulldogs.

“We’re not even thinking about Florida,” Smart said. “... I’m worried about our team for these two days and we’ll get to work on Florida probably Thursday and focus on them then. We’re working on our team. We’ve got to get us better, and we’ve got a lot we can get better at.”

Next game: UF vs. No. 3 Georgia, Oct. 28, 3:30 p.m., CBS
