Broward football Top 10

- — David Furones

There were two matchups of top-10 teams last week in Broward County. Although the outcome of American Heritage at Cardinal Gibbons created no change in the top 10, Plantation and Western swapped places after the Colonels defeated the Wildcats 34-28. Games at 7 p.m. on Friday unless noted. 1. (1) AMERICAN HERITAGE (5-0) The Patriots earned the win at district rival No. 3 Cardinal Gibbons, which is ranked second in Class 5A, to remain at the top. Their active win streak is now at 19.

vs. Miami Jackson 2. (2) ST. THOMAS AQUINAS (5-1) The Raiders won the first of two district games, 49-7 over Fort Lauderdale.

at Boyd Anderson 3. (3) CARDINAL GIBBONS (5-1) The Chiefs played No. 1 American Heritage tough and remain No. 3 in Broward County.

at Hallandale 4. (4) DEERFIELD BEACH (5-2) The Bucks won a District 11-8A game against Douglas and a Monday night non-district contest with crosstown rival Blanche Ely by a combined score of 90-8. Not bad for two games in four nights.

at Monarch 5. (5) CHAMINADE-MADONNA (4-2) The Lions just knocked off a Miami Booker T. Washington team that won four Class 4A state titles in a row before a state semifinal elimination last year at eventual state champ Cocoa.

at Doral Academy, Thursday 7 p.m. 6. (6) UNIVERSITY SCHOOL (5-0) A 34-14 win over Homestead Everglades Prep may not be as dominant as one would expect for the Sharks, but they’ll place more importance on coming out strong on the reigning Class 2A runner-up.

vs. Hialeah Champagnat Catholic 7. (7) MIRAMAR (6-1) The Patriots picked up a non-district win over Hallandale. They go back to working on that District 12-8A title this week.

at Everglades 8. (9) PLANTATION (6-1) The 34-28 victory over Western means the Colonels swap spots with the Wildcats. Their lone loss remains the Monday night makeup game at Miramar a couple of weeks back.

at Coral Glades, Thursday 7 p.m. 9. (8) WESTERN (6-1) Plantation earned the No. 8 spot over the Wildcats on the field. Western gets Miramar on Oct. 27 with a chance to make District 12-8A very interesting.

at Everglades, Thursday 7 p.m. 10. (10) NOVA (6-0) The Titans remain unbeaten after a second-half rally propelled them to a 36-14 district win over Cooper City. Without playing anyone ahead in the rankings, tough to move them any higher. vs. Hollywood Hills

Dillard, Coconut Creek, Monarch, Stranahan.
