Rail crossings, bridge projects nearing completion

- By Wayne K. Roustan Staff writer Doctor Detour answers your transportation questions.

Q: When will they fix the bumpy railroad crossings at Camino Real and Southwest 18th Street in Boca Raton? The situation is unbearable. Please help! Ugo Torquati, Boca Raton.

A: According to Tri-Rail officials, the railroad crossing at West Camino Real will be upgraded between 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10 and 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The crossing at Southwest 18th Street will be redone between 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17 and 6 a.m.Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The crossings will be closed to through traffic, but the roads will be open to local traffic on either side of the tracks. Detour

signs will be posted. Hurricane Irma is being blamed for the delays.

Q: Would you have an update for the completion of the bridge on Ravenswood Road, just north of Griffin Road? Last I heard, it was to be finished this month. Do you know if that is still a correct time frame? Nick Bryant, Davie.

A: The two-year, $4.8 million project was scheduled to be finished this fall. It includes replacing the bridge over the Dania Cut-Off Canal and the fender system along the canal walls for boaters.

The Ravenswood Road bridge remains closed to traffic so it can be repaved and striped between Southwest 42nd and 45th streets, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,

Monday to Friday, through the end of the month.

Q: What are those yellow squares on top of the traffic light signs on Pine Island Road? Ronald Perreault, Plantation.

A: The smaller yellow diamond signs are meant to attract attention to the larger yellow diamond signs which may be difficult for southbound drivers to see as they come around the curve on North Pine Island Road. In the past, traffic engineers attached red and orange flags to signs, but the metal attachments are more durable.
