Custodian, 27, accused of molesting boy

A school custodian took a teen boy to the gym at Coral Springs Middle where he sexually assaulted him after an algebra lesson, police said.

The alleged molestation occurred Oct. 14 at the school where Robert Quincey Grant, 27, brought the 15-year-old boy, who he had met while coaching flag football some time ago.

According to an arrest report, Grant picked the boy up at his home that Saturday and took him to the school for help with his algebra homework. The custodian had keys that gave him access to school grounds.

Grant had served as the boy’s mentor and gained his mother’s trust over the past year, investigators say.

In the school’s gym, Grant instructed the boy to get on the ground so he could stretch his hamstring and abruptly pulled down the boy’s shorts and underwear, the police report said.

Grant, according to investigators, then performed oral sex on the boy while giving someone else stretching instructions on a cellphone headset.

The boy told police that he froze in fear and said nothing because he was afraid of being kidnapped.

Surveillance video from the school shows Grant and the boy together during a threehour period at the school Saturday night, police said.

When confronted by investigators, Grant admitted to being at the school with the boy and doing stretching exercises with him but denied the sexual allegations. The boy also told police that over the summer Grant would check on a groin injury and groped his privates at least 10 times while training with him.

Grant is an assistant coach for school sports for boys and girls and volunteers as a chaperone on school field trips, the arrest report said.

Grant has worked for the Broward School District since 2010 and has worked at Coral Springs Middle for the past five years. He has been reassigned so he won’t have contact with students, the district said.

Grant, of Coconut Creek, faces multiple lewd and lascivious molestation and sexual assault charges. He was jailed without bond.
