Bulls draw strong road support

NEW ORLEANS — Perhaps it was the chance to witness the first USF-Tulane game ever, or an opportunity to frolic in the French Quarter for a weekend. Or both.

Regardless, USF had one of its heartiest fan contingents for a road game in recent memory, with fans cheering on the No. 17 Bulls as they earned a 34-28 win over the Green Wave and improved to 7-0 for the first time.

The school reported 1,200 tickets for Saturday’s contest were sold through its office, but the throng of Bulls fans in the northwest corner of Yulman Stadium appeared roughly three times that total. Announced attendance was 17,256. “This is what big-time programs do, show up in big numbers on the road,” USF athletics director

said. “Our guys responded to their energy. We appreciate all who were here tonight. It was awesome.”

The Bulls made the travelers’ entire weekend worthwhile. On Friday night, the USF volleyball team swept Tulane at Devlin Fieldhouse to snap a two-match skid.

The Bulls had seven chunk plays (20 or more yards), three times as many as they totaled in last week's 33-3 romp of Cincinnati.

QB had a hand in five of them, including touchdown passes of 38 and 28 yards to

and respectively. With 138 rushing yards, Flowers supplanted Texas’

(3,129 yards) for 19th place on the all-time quarterback rushing list. Flowers entered the game with 3,207 career yards.
