Frost’s staff ready to step in if needed

- Shannon Green

Every Thursday, multiple UCF coaches contribute to the weekly call sheet for plays, according to offensive coordinator

The group effort should provide relief for fans should head coach need to miss one of his upcoming games due to the arrival of his first child, a son due Nov. 1.

“I’m ready,” Walters said. “Our staff is ready. We do a great job, even on game day Frost calls the plays but we do a great job as a staff of providing input. There’s only one Frost and he has a great mind and everything, but we’re confident that if he does have to go and we have to call the game, I have to call the game, collectively we’ll be just fine.”

Walters would likely run the show in Frost’s absence. Like Frost, he also had a child during football season a few years ago when he was an assistant at Colorado.

His second child, Faith, was born on a Sunday following a game against USC.

“I got a text from my wife saying her water broke and I’m thinking it was a water pipe because it was a month early,” Walters said with a laugh. “... It was a good time because Sunday, you’re just kind of preliminarily game planning, so I was able to be there with her and game plan in the hospital and carry on with the rest of the week.”

No. 18 UCF vs. Austin Peay, Saturday, 5 p.m.,
