IPhone seller shot in the head, police say

- By Tonya Alanez Staff writer

A woman looking to sell an iPhone via the online application Offer Up was shot in the back of the head when the buyer pulled a gun, authorities said.

The woman’s injuries were not life threatening, said Gina Carter, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff ’s Office.

Detectives are looking for the Puma tracksuit-wearing robber. He was about 5 feet 4 inches tall and had short dark hair.

The resell deal went wrong soon after the woman and her fiancé met up with the man Sunday in North Lauderdale at 1348 Avon Lane, Carter said.

When they met, the buyer asked the couple to take him to an ATM, so they gave him a ride to a Chevron gas station.

“The store’s security cameras captured the robber as he walked into the convenience store and pretended to use the ATM,” Carter said.

When they returned to the meet-up location, the couple noted that the man was acting strangely.

“The buyer pulled out a gun and demanded both of their phones,” Carter said.

As the couple quickly drove away, the buyer fired a shot, striking the woman in the back of the head, Carter said.

The woman’s fiancé took her to University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac where she was treated for her injuries.
