’Noles inspired by Christmas play
TALLAHASSEE — and Florida State, trying to renew their spirits after a demoralizing loss and a 2-4 start to the season, can look to another play that did not go their way against Louisville for inspiration. As reigning Heisman Trophy winning quarterback
gashed the FSU defense for a highlightreel worthy 51-yard run that later led to a touchdown, FSU defensive tackle chugged his way from the line of scrimmage to run the same distance and tackle Jackson from behind to end the play.
Christmas’ exuberant effort has been applauded by Fisher and his teammates in a play the FSU coaches used as a teaching moment for the Seminoles this week.
“That was phenomenal effort that can push us to help us win the last few games we have,” FSU backup running back said Tuesday. “I think that play just shows everybody else in the country that we have players, and we all are players that can show effort like that every play.”
Fisher likened Christmas’ effort to lengthy sequences by former FSU standout cornerback who had memorable effort plays against Idaho and in the 2013 national-championship game.
Christmas’ play is a “classic,” Fisher said, especially for a player of his 6-4, 300-pound stature to chase down a dynamic playmaker like Jackson.
“You see the desire to play, the heart, the energy, the love to play,” Fisher said. “There's no quit.”
